Our Mission
Our mission is to provide children and families the opportunity to explore, discover and learn through play about the natural world, the arts and sciences and the diversity of Maine’s mid-coast.
Minutes from downtown Rockland, Maine, The Coastal Children's Museum is a vibrant hub of exploration and discovery for young minds. Created in 1985 as the "Mid-Coast Children's Museum," it began as a visionary concept, a museum without walls, fostering curiosity and learning wherever it went.
In 2009, the museum found its permanent home at 75 Mechanic Street, thanks to the dedication of founders Elaine Wilson and Felicity Bowditch.
Since then, under the nurturing guidance of its founders and board of directors, and with the passion and dedication of its incredible staff, the Coastal Children's Museum has flourished. It's a place where children's imaginations take flight, where hands-on exhibits spark creativity, and where learning feels like an adventure.
From interactive displays to engaging programs, every corner is designed to inspire wonder and ignite a lifelong love of exploration.
Come join us and dive into a world of discovery at The Coastal Children's Museum.
